The picture has not been cleaned or restored in any way and as such is decorative.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eVerso we see the canvas is annotated 'Henry S. Sands for Annual 1928' and a stamp for “C. Roberson \u0026amp; co. ltd., 99 Longacre, London” (Roberson's were based at 99 Longacre from between 1853-1937).\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eHenry Southgate Sands, RBSA (British, 1900-1971) was a Londoner by birth. He won a scholarship to the Camberwell School of Art in 1914 and was apprenticed as a textile designer in 1916. He returned from his war service in 1920 to embark upon a career of some distinction as an illustrator, portrait painter and mural artist and would have been twenty eight when he painted this picture. He designed the 'Plays in the Park' mural which adorned Birmingham Town Hall in the early 1940s during which time it is also believed that he served as the President of the R.B.S.A.
