The ebony is stamped to the bottom 'Real Ebony'. A holder of very similar quality, style and size, but with silver mounts, was hallmarked for London 1915, maker's mark William Robertson.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eEbony is a very slow growing hardwood and was imported from British India and was a popular vanity set material with both men and women from around the turn of the century to the 1920s which is when the timber became too rare and expensive to be economically viable.
